Course Description: This local San Diego 5K runs through Marian Bear Park right in the heart of San Diego. About This Race … and it’s role in the Grand Slam Series:
The Coyote 5k Trail Race is brought to you by Dirt Devil Racing.com and is the 1st of 4 trail races in the Grand Slam Progressive Series being held in San Diegoin 2013. If you are new to running trails, this is the race series for you!! It starts out with this Coyote 5k (approximately 3 miles) which is an out-and-back (meaning the course is very easy to follow and there is no chance of you getting lost.) You then have a month to train for the next race in the series, the Sidewinder 10k (or 6 miles). After that, it’s another full month to add another 3 miles for the Stairway to Heaven 15k. The last race in the series is a Half Marathon (or 13.1 miles) in October … but you’ll have two full months to train for this last 4 additional miles. Thus the reason we call this the Grand Slam Progressive … you progress through four races, rounding each base, collecting your commemorative logo’ed Beer Glasses for each race. Even if you’ve never run a race before, by the end of this summer you’ll have completed four races and become a true trail runner!!!
If you plan to do the Grand Slam Progressive Series you MUST run all FOUR races in the Grand Slam Series. This Coyote 5k, the Sidewinder 10k in July, the Stairway to Heaven 15k in August, and the final race the Raptor Ridge Half Marathon in October … so do NOT miss this 1st race! You will also earn the commemorative Grand Slam Award … a logo’ed Pitcher (or perhaps a Growler for you beer lovers!) to add to your collection. Whether you love nature and being on the trails, or just drinking microbrew beers, you’ll want to attend each Awards Ceremony & Breakfast Buffet following these races!!
If you do NOT plan to do the series and just want to run a great 5k trail… then this is an amazing trail to explore in the San Diegoarea. It sold out a month in advance last year, and we expect the same this year! So act fast and don’t delay on registering thru Active.com – Click Here
Course cut-off: The course cut-off time is 1.5 hours. No finisher awards will be given for any racer not completing the course within 1.5 hours.
Aid Stations: There will be two aid stations for this 5K. Aid stations will be stocked with water and electrolyte drink.
The 5K will have aid stations at approximately miles 1.1 and 2.0.
It is MANDATORY that all runners carry at minimum 12 oz. hand bottle for hydration. This is a trail race and we are trying to eliminate the use of cups at Aid Stations to truly go green. We need you to do your part. We will meet you half way this year … but may go completely green in 2014. So get your practice runs in now!

Directions to Start: From Interstate-5 take the 52 Freeway East. Exit to the RIGHT at the bottom of the exit ramp at Clairemont Mesa Blvd/Regents road. Go South on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and make an immediate right into the Parking area. (If you went up the hill to the traffic light … you went too far. Make a legal u-turn and now enter the parking lot on your RIGHT, but this time, just before getting to the 52 Freeway on ramps.) You will make a left once INSIDE the parking lot and go under the bridge to the start line area. Be sure to follow all Parking Staff instructions.

There will be TWO WAVES starts for the 5k, and the waves will be separated by only a few minutes. Your wave is linked to your bib, so do not jump waves or you will be disqualified and noted as DNF in the results.
Prizes: All 5k finishers who registered prior to Registration Closing date, or race sell out will receive a moisture-wicking technical T-Shirt. Those who register late, or as a last minute entry are NOT guaranteed to get a shirt. All racers who finish the 5k in under 1.5 hours will also receive a commemorative BEER GLASS with race logos and event date. This collector’s glass is the first in the set of four that Series finishers can earn. However, by completing ALL 4 Grand Slam Progressive Races in the Series runners can earn a set of all 4 glasses AND the Grand Slam Award. (Pictures coming soon!!)
