Course Description: This local San Diego 10k is located in central San Diego just minutes from Sea World, and runs through Tecolote Canyon right in the heart of San Diego. The race starts at Tecolote Canyon Nature Center at the end of Tecolote Road and crosses the entire canyon. The trail starts out as a wide jeep road that gradually ascends for the first mile until you can see Tecolote Golf Course on your left. At this point the trail gets slightly steeper and becomes narrower (single track). The 10K makes two quick left turns and returns the way they came on a flat and fast 1 mile stretch back to the finish.
About This Race … and it’s role in the Grand Slam Series:
The Sidewinder 10k Trail Race is brought to you by Dirt Devil Racing.com and is the 2nd trail race of four races being held in 2013 as part of the “Grand Slam Progressive Series.” All our trail races are incredible, but this Sidewinder out-n-back race is probably the flattest and quickest course in our series. Sidewinder promises to deliver the ultimate in a trail running experience. Unique and fun place to run!!!
If you plan to do the Grand Slam Series you MUST run all FOUR races in the Series. The Coyote 5k kicks off the series, and is followed by Sidewinder 10k in July, then Stairway to Heaven 15k which takes place in August, and the final race is the Raptor Ridge Half Marathon in October to complete the Series … so do NOT miss this 2nd race in the series!
If you do NOT plan to do the series and just want to run a great 10k trail … then this is an amazing trail to explore in theSan Diegoarea. It sold out a month in advance last year, and we expect the same this year!

Course cut-off: The course cut-off time is 1.5 hours. No finisher awards will be given for any racer not completing the course within 1.5 hours.
Aid Stations: There will be two aid stations for the 10K. They will be located at approximately miles 2.5 and 4.75. Aid stations will be stocked with water and electrolyte drink.
It is MANDATORY that all runners carry at minimum 12 oz. hand bottle for hydration. This is a trail race and we are trying to eliminate the use of cups at Aid Stations to truly go green. We need you to do your part. We will meet you half way this year … but may go completely green in 2014. So get your practice runs in now!

This is the fist 3 miles of the 10K course which is an out and back. So you are coming back the exact same route you go out on, for a total of 6.2 miles.
Course is subject to change based on park approval and trail conditions

Parking: There is minimal parking at Tecolote Nature Center. However there is ample parking just outside on Tecolote Road. Please follow the direction of our Parking Staff on race day and park outside on Tecolote Road along the baseball fields. Or make arrangements to be dropped off at the Nature Center.
Race Check in: 6:00 am – 6:45am
Race Start Time: 7 am
There will be TWO WAVES for the 10K start, and the waves will be separated by only a few minutes. Your wave is linked to your bib, so do not jump waves or you will be disqualified and noted as DNF in the results.
Prizes: All 10k finishers will receive a moisture-wicking technical T-shirt and a commemorative BEER GLASS with the race logo and date of event. This collector glass is the 2nd in the set of 4 that runners can earn by finishing. However, by completing All 4 Grand Slam Progressive Races, runners can earn a set of all 4 glasses AND the Grand Slam Award. Race Results: Race results will not be available at the finish line. Please do not interrupt the professional timing team. Just as you want an accurate time, so do the racers that have yet to finish behind you. We will have the Overall & Age Group Winner times available at the Post-Race Party & Awards Ceremony. All race times and distance placing will be available on the DirtDevilRacing.com website no later than the Wednesday after the race.
Post-Race Party and Awards Ceremony: Dirt Devil Racing is in the process of teaming up with a great location to host our Post-Race Party & Awards Ceremony! If a Breakfast Buffet is not offered on Active.com at the time of registration, you will be notified via your Active email address about the pricing, location, and directions. Purchasing the Buffet is not required to attend ANY post race party. It merely ensures a seat at the post-party and saves the racer a few bucks on a great breakfast. At-the-door buffet purchases will cost more money and seating may require a slight wait time.
After Party locations are always a short 20 minute (or less) drive from the race site and will be on the way home for most people residing in theSan Diegoarea. For directions from the race site to the Post Race Party, please check back HERE prior to race day.
Post-Race Party/Buffet typically starts at 8:30am … Awards at 10:00am!
